JAS13 Nefyn and Abersoch are obscure earthwork castles on the Llyn Penisular in North Wales. Has anyone visited them and if so what remains exist today? A recent post on the Castles of Wales website suggests that Nefyn Castle is now located in a childrens playground, whilst other sources describe a mound on the coast with a fishermans watchtower on the summit. Abersoch is generally described as having only faint earthworks remaining. If you have visited either or both I would be very interested to know what actual remains exist. Thanks, John.

No such luck with Abersoch as it seems that the site has been totally destroyed.
I haven't visited either site so someone else may have more information for you.

Jonesy Hi I found this board by accident! I am originally from Nefyn and in actual fact it wasn't a castle but a monastery as the name of that place 'Brynmynach' means 'monk hill'. i have never heard of a castle being there..but we do have an old watchtower..which could have been part of a castle..I have read that somewhere but not totally sure! never heard about a castle in abersoch either but then again there could have been!! (my fiancee has just said u can get a 'castle monastery thing??...!! if so then maybe there was a castle!)

JAS13 Thanks for that, I have heard mention of the watchtower, where is it in relation to the town and is it accessible? I'd like to get and have a look.
Jonesy yeah its very accessible..it just doesnt look all that nice especially as all the young teenagers hang around there etc.....have u ever been to nefyn? because the only way I could tell you where it is..is that it is next to the church! and depending where you are coming from..i am so hopeless! im sorry!!
